Narrative Description of Project:

In 2014, highway running parallel to the Madarsoo river, which is an important international corridor to neighboring countries, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and the sacred holy place of Shiite Muslim, Mashhad was completely damaged by flood and debris flow. Therefore, the project was assigned for the Flood and Debris Flow Control Master Plan development for the Madarsoo river basin.


Description of Actual Services Provided by Your Staff:

Set up distributed hydrological model MIKE SHE and river flow simulation model MIKE11. Analyzed the frequencies of extreme rainfalls and river flows; determined the design rainfalls and high water levels in rivers; and prepared flood hazard maps of the basin. Analyzed the impact of flood regulation structures on flood peak reduction in the mainstream river. Reviewed the damages caused and inundated areas by past floods in Madarsoo River in the basin.
